Monthly News Update

May 2006

David Sandeman, Managing Director Welcome to the May news letter giving a summary of results for April 2006. April was slightly quieter than March, probably owing to the fact that Easter fell in April this year. Do please look at the comments at the bottom of this news letter in respect of useful tips when using the site.

We have also analysed the split of the types of lots offered throughout the UK in 2005 in terms of number of lots offered and amount raised.

Kind regards

Essential Auction News
107 property auctions were held throughout the UK in April 2006. We will compare these results to those of April 2005. There is also a regional breakdown of statistics, and a detailed analysis of the type of properties offered and sold at auction.

Overall Statistics April 2006
Number of Auctions Held in the UK 107
Total Lots Offered 2,772
Total Lots Sold 2,058
Percent Sold 74%
Total Realised £293,650,186

National Auction Analysis
Notwithstanding the fact that Easter fell in April this year as opposed to March last year, April was another busy month with the number of lots being offered up 8% at 2,772 and the sale rate remaining steady at 73%. Interestingly, the amount raised was down 24%, due in the most part to 3 major commercial Auction Houses holding their Spring sale at the end of March this year as opposed to April last year.

The rolling three months and rolling year both saw increases in all totals as can been seen from the table below.

Regional Auction Analysis
The majority of regions saw a small increase in the number of lots offered and sold, though there were no major changes either upwards or downwards. However all the regions bar 2; Wales and the East Midlands; had a fall in the total raised on account of the 3 major commercial Auction Houses not holding an auction in April. Whilst they are based in London, their stock is nationwide and affects all regions.
