Welcome to the May newsletter that primarily reviews the auction statistics for April 2009. Whilst the percentage sold rate was down 4 points on March 2009, it was still a very respectable 70%.
This is evidence of a real market, and one would expect fluctuations in sales rates depending on the profile of the auctions that were held in the month.

National Auction Analysis
The figures below show a very similar sales rate for both residential and commercial property sold in April 2009. It compares favourably with April 2008 where 62% of all auction lots sold. (The figure of 70% will increase by a few percentage points as and when we are notified of post auction sales).
Overall volumes of lots offered and amount raised were down 29% and 48% respectively, with the greater drops being seen in the commercial markets. However recent commercial catalogues have grown in size and value so one would expect to see this trend reversed.

Regional Auction Analysis
The regional quarterly sales rates generally reflect the national overall position. The lowest sales rate was the North East at 56% and the highest was the South West at 82%.
