March 2006 was another busy month for the industry with several auction houses holding major auctions in terms of either number of lots offered or amount raised. Compared with last year, 23% more lots were offered and the amount raised surged forward by almost 58%. These trends are the same in the rolling 3 month and rolling year comparisons shown below.

Regional Auction Analysis
Given the uplift in both number of lots offered and the amount raised, it is no surprise that the regional comparison shows growth in all regions except East Anglia where both totals were very slightly down, as was the number of lots offered in London (down 4.7%).

We have noticed more auctioneering firms starting up in the regions, and several of the existing ones are holding auctions with many more lots than before and these two factors together with the buoyancy of the auction process are all contributing factors to the increase in auction activity.
